FIJI - Amex appoints Engenium for iron sands BFS

Australian project delivery company Engenium has been awarded an Aus$1 million contract to complete a bankable feasibility study (BFS) for Fiji’s first iron ore mine. Amex Resources’ Mba Delta iron sands project is located on Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu, covering 120sqkm of magnetite rich iron sands in the northwest region.

As part of the BFS, Engenium is required to design the processing plant and related infrastructure including transport, storage and shipping for the concentrate.

“We are very excited to be working with the Amex team on this project,” says Engenium’s managing director Wayne Peel. “Amex is looking to take this project into production quickly with construction targeted to start in 2012. We will be working closely with the Amex team to fast track this project and get Fiji’s first iron ore mine into production.”

Wayne Peel says the company has a reputation for turning explorers into producers, and boasts international clients including Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Centrex Metals and Brockman Resources. It has experience in the iron ore mine developments including Atlas Iron’s Pardoo project, Golden West Resources’ Wiluna West project and Polaris Metals’ Poondano project. Engenium is expected to complete the BFS by April 2012.
