CHINA - Sparton signs cement agreement

Canadian mineral and energy company Sparton Resources’ Chinese subsidiary Yunnan Sparton Environtech (YSET) has signed a cooperation agreement with the world’s largest cement manufacturer to recycle waste ash from its Chinese coal projects. Lafarge Shui On Technical Services (LSOC) is the Chinese subsidiary of Lafarge SA, a world leading building materials company. It wants to use waste coal ash as an additive in its cement manufacturing process.

LSOC operates 18 cement plants and grinding stations in China, with another cement plant under construction in Yunnan province.

The agreement will see YSET identify deposits of potentially recyclable waste for LSOC to evaluate for suitability within the cement-making process. Both companies are expecting significant environmental benefits from the program.

YSET president Lee Barker says, “Sparton is very pleased to be associated in this program with the Lafarge organization. Lafarge’s strong position in Yunnan, and its support for the recycling and waste cleanup initiatives developed by YSET, will be extremely positive contributions to the program going forward.”

Sparton Resources was named as the best clean technology company in 2010 by World Finance.
