Asia Now Resources has appointed a new president and chief executive officer to the board of directors. Harold Roy Shipes replaces Kelvin Lee who resigned earlier this month.
The board has also thanked Gordon McCreary for his service as chairman since November 2010. He is now refocusing his efforts on North American gold mining opportunities, but will continue to serve as a director of the company. Chan Wing Kwong has been appointed as the interim chairman.
Asia Now’s activities include exploration for lead, copper, gold and silver at two major Chinese properties, Beiya and Habo. The company is drilling at both Yunnan province projects which it says have the potential to host world-class gold and copper ore deposits.
A 17,400 metre drill program at the 72%-owned Beiya project will test various styles of mineralization and define an economic resource. At the Habo project, in the province’s south, drill holes and tunnelling have intersected mineralization zones including 52.5 metres @ 0.25% copper and 0.08% molybdenum and 17 metres @ 0.96% copper.
Last November, Asia Now received international recognition for its progress in exploring the Beiya project in one of China’s most prospective areas. The company was awarded the Prospecting and Exploration Outstanding Achievements title at the 2011 China Mining Conference in Tianjin.
The Beiya project is regarded as a model example for successful joint ventures in mineral exploration in China. It is adjacent to the Beiya gold mine which produces 200,000 ounces of gold annually and is the largest open-pit operation in the western Yunnan province. This mine is not part of Asia Now’s property.
