MOVERS & SHAKERS - East Asia appoints new COO
East Asia Minerals has appointed a new chief operating officer to head its management team and lead development of the Miwah gold project in Indonesia. Dave Anthony will take on the new role after holding positions of similar seniority with Barrick Gold, where he was responsible for African Barrick Gold (ABG) mines and capital projects. He has more than 30 years’ engineering and environmental experience in the mining industry.
East Asia’s chairman Edward Rochette says, “We are pleased that Dave Anthony has joined East Asia Minerals. Dave’s wealth of experience in the mining industry will be accretive to East Asia’s strong, new management team. We look forward to working with him in his new role as we move the company forward.
“We would also like to thank Alex Granger for his hard work and efforts as president and look forward to continued contributions from him in his new role,” he said. Alex Granger has stepped down as the company’s president but will continue to contribute his financial and operational expertise as a company consultant.
East Asia is also pleased to announce that it has recently signed an agreement with SGMS, an Indonesian-based company, to conduct engineering studies on both the Miwah and Sangihe projects.
The company says these early stage studies will be used internally to assist management in evaluating the next stages of the projects and its strategy going forward. Management looks forward to receiving the results by the end of this month.
The Miwah project is a high level, high sulphidation epithermal gold prospect within three contiguous IUP mining licences which the company is party to through cooperation agreements with its partners. It is also within a designated Indonesian government forestry area in the Aceh province meaning East Asia needs to obtain a two year forestry permit to conduct activities that will disturb the natural ecosystem.
Miwah has an inferred resource of 103.9 million tonnes averaging 0.94 grams/tonne gold and 2.68 grams/tonne silver for 3.14 million ounces of gold and 8.95 million ounces of silver in near and at surface mineralization.
