China"s New Employment Contract Law - "Being Prepared and Aware" is the topic of this month"s meeting of the China International Mining Group (CIMG) in Beijing at the Swissotel Function Room 8 from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, January 31.
On January 1, 2008, China's new Employment Contract Law took effect, and the changes are significant. The new labor contract law, enacted by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress installs a sweeping new labor law that strengthens protections for workers across its booming economy.
If you already haven't taken action, you need to be taking action now to be in compliance. This monthly meeting will highlight what you need to be aware of and what steps you need to undertake to be compliant with China's New Employment Contract Law.
The new law applies to all companies regardless of your number of employees. Under the old labor contract system, employers could terminate contracts without notice, withhold workers' wages, and refuse to renew contracts.
The new law has changed this and includes many provisions that protect workers. It has been noted by the press that this is the biggest change in Chinese labor law in the reform and opening period.
On hand to outline the new provisions and requirements will be a number of CIMG members who will make short presentations and which will then be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session.
As always, the meeting will be followed by and informal networking session with wine, beer and snacks.
Non-members who do not come as guests of CIMG members or the CIMG Secretariat will be charged 150RMB to attend the monthly meeting. |
