PHILIPPINES - Industry leader praised for efforts during dark days of mining E-mail

Indophil Resources managing director Tony Robbins has been recognized for his achievements and leadership in the Philippine mining industry.

The Chamber of Mines of the Philippines presented Tony Robbins, who has worked in the Philippines for 18 years, his award at the 7th Asia Pacific Mining Conference held in Manila last week.

Chamber president Philip Romualdez praised Tony Robbins for his persistence in advancing the cause of responsible mining in the Philippines.

"Responsible mining has an important role to play in the ongoing growth of the Philippines, and Tony has been at the forefront of the non-Filipino activity. He has been successful in his own right in minerals development here, and he has been generous with his time and advice as other foreign players seek to build a successful mining business in the Philippines," Philip Romualdez said.

"In the darkest days after the Philippine Supreme Court ruled that the Mining Act was unconstitutional - now overturned - it was Tony Robbins who urged me to take an active role as head of the Chamber. If not for Tony's efforts over the years, the current high level of involvement we see from foreign mining companies in the Philippines might not have taken place."
