In co-operation with energy plant construction companies in China, DEUTZ Power Systems is providing reliable power supplies through its gas engine gensets.
The DEUTZ gas-powered gensets at the combined heat and power plants (CHP) are used to produce electricity, heat, and cold with a high degree of efficiency and low emissions. The 10 million inhabitants of the megacity of Shanghai generate amounts of waste that by far exceed the dimensions of large European cities. However, the waste strategy of China's most important industrial city also comprises biological waste treatment plants that supply large amounts of landfill gas for generating power with gas engines. Each district collects its own waste and transports it to disposal stations by land or water. Every day about 6000 tonnes of waste arrive at the dumping ground of the Shanghai district in Laogang. At the biological waste treatment plant, two TCG 2020 V16 gas engines from DEUTZ Power Systems generate 2.5 MW of electricity from the collected landfill gas. The plant was commissioned in the summer of 2007. Another DEUTZ success story concerns the coal mining field of the Shanxi Coking Coal Group in Shanxi province that covers an area of about 2600sqkm. The 23 billion tonnes of coal under this area represent almost 80% of China's total deposits. In 2005, about 60 million tonnes were mined in the field, which comprises 22 mines. The Duerping mine alone has coal reserves of 700 million tonnes and an expected lifetime of 50 years. The mining field is not only a source for coal. Every tonne of coal mined yields about 18 cubic metres of mine gas containing methane. Since early 2007, the mine gas at Duerping has been collected in a new plant and used to power gas gensets for generating electricity and heat. Three TCG 2020 V20 gas engines from 23 DEUTZ Power Systems are used for this purpose. The gensets produce about 5.2 MW of electricity and 5.3 MW of thermal energy and the mine can be autonomously supplied with heat and power from mine gas. The landfill plant and the mine gas plant are CDM (Carbon Development Mechanism) projects that are economically efficient and ecologically effective. www.deutzpowersystems.com/ oliver.schulz@unicepta.net;oliver.schulz@unicepta.de |
