URANIUM - China-Kazakh links strengthened E-mail

Recent agreements have strengthened uranium mining and nuclear power links between China and Kazakhstan.

The agreements were signed in Beijing between Kazatomprom and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGNPC) and cover Chinese participation in Kazakh uranium mining joint ventures and on Kazatomprom investment in China's nuclear power industry.

They came in the context of an earlier strategic cooperation agreement and one on uranium supply and fuel fabrication.

This is a major strategic arrangement for both companies with Kazatomprom to become the main uranium and nuclear fuel supplier to CGNPC, which accounts for a large share of the new reactors being built in China.

A framework strategic cooperation agreement has also been signed with China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
