Becker Mining Systems, of Friedrichsthal, Germany, offers solutions for underground mining applications focusing on automation and communications, energy distribution, man and material haulage as well as safety and monitoring.
Becker Mining Systems employs more than 1100 employees at sites in Germany, France, Poland, South Africa, China, Russia, Australia and Canada. The company was founded in 1964 by Walter Becker who specialized in transport technology. This was supplemented in 1970 by automation and communications. The company became international in 1983 with the creation of a South African subsidiary. Polish and Chinese subsidiaries followed, with the aim of assuring local support for customers. In 2002, Becker Mining Systems added energy distribution to its product range with acquisition of the French company SAIT. Sales and service subsidiaries were set up in Russia in 2003 and in Australia in 2005. In 2006 Becker set up a Canadian branch. Becker Mining Systems' customers include mining companies throughout the world. 'Tagging & Tracking', a system for enhancing occupational health and safety, and optimizing logistics processes, is also used in tunnelling. |
