Xstrata Technology has sold a licence for its Albion process technology to GeoProMining (GPM) Gold for use in its Armenian gold project. The agreement will see Xstrata’s proprietary fine grind and oxidative leach technology used for the recovery of gold and silver from sulphide concentrates at the GPM project.
A bankable feasibility study in 2011 included batch and continuous pilot plant test work on samples from the mine site, and demonstrated the Albion process can achieve high gold and silver recoveries from GPM’s sulphide concentrates on a cost-effective basis.
Xstrata’s chief executive officer Joe Pease says his company will provide the process technology as a design and supply package, and will also complete detailed design of the existing flotation plant upgrade. “The contract includes supply of a grinding plant, modular leach and slurry storage reactors, rate thickener, oxygen plant and 140 tonne per day limestone grinding plant. The process plant is scheduled for commissioning in April 2013.”
