The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) has been advocating for a more streamlined and efficient approvals system at the Federal level and is pleased to see the announcement from the Federal Minister for the Environment Greg Hunt.

Galaxy Resources has announced its best-ever monthly production in September at its Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate Plant, totalling 795 tonnes of lithium carbonate. Quarterly production stood at 2040 tonnes, a 15% increase year-on-year for the quarter ending June 2013. Meanwhile, 1373 tonnes, or 67% of volume in the September quarter, were battery grade – a 95% improvement quarter-on-quarter. 
Copper production as its new Oyu Tolgoi mine in Mongolia came on stream underpinned a much better than expected third quarter for mining giant Rio Tinto. Copper output jumped 23% in the three months to September as Oyu Tolgoi continued its ramp-up, while Kennecott in the US recovered from its wall slide earlier this year.
