Intertek has opened a minerals processing laboratory at its existing facility in Adelaide, South Australia, to provide expanded local support services and capabilities to the growing demand for quality metallurgy testing.

“Intertek has expanded their laboratory mineral processing services to meet the increasing demand for metallurgical test work in Australia,” says Intertek Minerals Business Line senior vice president John Fowler. “Intertek is pleased to be able to offer minerals processing capability in our Adelaide facility expanding upon the services provided by Intertek’s existing analytical laboratory in South Australia.

“We’ve been operating in Adelaide for more than 20 years, providing value and jobs to the area. The new facility complements Intertek’s growing mineral, oil and gas and agricultural products laboratory network in Adelaide and South Australia.”

South Australian Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy Tom Koutsantonis will officially open Intertek’s first purpose-built laboratory and metallurgy facility in Australia. “In choosing to build the laboratory here, Intertek has recognized that South Australia is at the centre of Australia’s road, rail and air logistics networks and well positioned to service customers from large-scale mining developments in the west and the north.

“Intertek’s investment here is a very good fit with the direction this State Government is taking to build South Australia’s strengths such as its $6 million commitment to a develop a Mining and Petroleum Services Centre of Excellence to drive innovation and performance,” said Tom Koutsantonis.

The new facility features flexible laboratory space that can and will be tailored to the needs of individual projects. A 600 square metre warehouse has been fitted out into two laboratory spaces – a dry processing area for crushing, milling, screening and mixing dry mineral samples; and a wet area for flotation, magnetic and gravity separation, filtration and particle sizing.

The facility incorporates an adjoining secure block to meet the needs of clients for larger scale pilot-plant work. A portion of the office area of the building has also been converted to laboratory space to house an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and sulphur-carbon analyser, as well as a purpose designed hydrometallurgy laboratory.
