Sichuan Henglu Industrial Company from China and Myanmar’s Good Plus Star Mining Company have formed a joint venture company named GPS Joint Venture to refine lead in Kalaw Township, Taunggyi district of Shan province.

The JV company was granted permission to start operation after a meeting of the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) held at Nay Pyi Taw late last year, according to an official from MIC.

Ministry of Mines sources say another Chinese company, North Mining Investment Company, is preparing to make an investment at Mway Taung Phar Ttaung Copper Project in Chin province and has submitted the proposal to MIC.

The MIC has requires foreign companies in the mining industry to conduct surveys on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA), said Ministry of Mines’ Mining Department director general Win Htein.
