IN June Martin Engineering Indonesia conducted a Foundations Advanced Seminar in Surabaya, Indonesia. The two-day seminar was attended by 40 participants from the cement, fertilizer and power industries, EPC, port authority, and smelting and conveyor contractors. The purpose was to provide information about the ‘Practical Resource for Cleaner, Safer, More Productive Dust & Material Control’, based on the 4th edition of Martin Engineering’s Foundation book.

Primary seminar speaker was Todd Swinderman, who started as a product engineer in 1979 and advanced to Martin president and CEO. He has been instrumental in developing technologies to solve problems in bulk materials handling, and in positioning Martin as a leading global resource to help industry operate cleaner, safer and more productive bulk materials handling systems.

Having retired from Martin in 2011, Todd Swinderman now consults on the topics of reducing the release of fugitive materials from bulk material handling conveyor belts as well as conveyor guarding and other safety concerns in the conveyor industry. As an engineer and inventor, he has conceived and commercialized products that have been accepted in applications across industry and around the world.

Participants said they were excited to participate:

A PT Dewata Technic representative said, “The seminar was very good. It provided complete knowledge and insight about conveyor systems. It changed my mind about the old conveyor system and I now have more ideas to design a conveyor system. I gained a lot of information about how to design a modern conveyor and afterwards I was able to share it with our team. What I got from the seminar, our team now gets the same information about how to design the modern conveyor. We hope other seminars like this will be held to add our knowledge in engineering design.”

A representative of PT Boma Bisma Indra (Persero) said, “I think the event was very useful because it can help some firms that often have troubles and are trying to find the right solutions. Events like this must continue every year. In addition to helping firms there are other benefits such as increasing information and experience for participants of the seminar.”

At the end of the seminar all participants were given a certificate and a group photo was taken. Martin Engineering really appreciates the efforts of those who participated actively and helped make the seminar memorable as well as educational.
