MONGOLIA - Rio Tinto takes majority stake in Ivanhoe

International mining group Rio Tinto is now the largest shareholder in Canadian company Ivanhoe Mines, increasing its stake to 51% with the purchase of 15.1 million common shares in a privately negotiated transaction. The Can$302 million purchase gives Rio Tinto the majority share of one of the world’s largest copper-gold mines, Oyu Tolgoi in southern Mongolia.1
