CIMIC Group’s Thiess has been selected as the mining services contractor at the Mount Owen coal operation in Hunter Valley, Australia.

Under the A$340 million, 18-month deal, Thiess will continue to provide mine planning, along with drill and blast services, design and execution, overburden removal and mining services. 

It is an extension to the presence the company already has at the mine, as it has been working at Mount Owen since 1994.

CIMIC Group CEO Juan Santamaria said the award reflects Thiess’ long-term commitment. It provides services to three mines in the region total.

“For more than 25 years we have delivered industry-leading, specialised mining techniques at Mount Owen, leading to higher resource recovery, increased plant efficiency and reliable material movement for our client.”
