Indonesian coal mining contractor PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA) will be on a growth path this year, reportedly adding 4,000 employees to its roster.

PPA director R. Teguh Saptosubroto said in a Kompas report that, in addition to the employee boost, it will also be adding 200 pieces of heavy equipment as it works to pursue its production targets for 2023.

The effort is being made to achieve the target of the two top coal contractors in the country. Specifically, PPA this year is eyeing additional volume of overburden removal of 150 million bank cubic meters (BCM). Through December 2022, its overburden removal production reached 272.4 million BCM, which exceeded its set goal of 265 million BCM.

PPA has been on a journey to increase its employee count since 2021, the report said, and as part of the plan built an operator and mechanic education center in Kalimantan, the PPA Academy. The facility provides higher education to 350 students in the mining region out of 800 available seats.

Saptosubroto recently also noted that its academy will recruit STM graduates as well as professionals in the mining service business.
