The second international mining and minerals recovery exhibition and conference, Mining Vietnam 2014, was held last week at the International Centre for Exhibition (ICE) in Hanoi. The exhibition aimed to support the development of the country’s mining industry.

The three-day event was organized by the VCCI Exhibition Service Company in association with the All World Exhibition Alliance, and showcased a range of advanced global technologies, modern machineries and equipment in the field of mining. There were 173 exhibition booths and the networking events were very well attended. The exhibition also featured country pavilions from Australia with 14 exhibitors, China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom.

Covering an area of 4000 square metres, the event offered visitors a chance to access advanced global mining technologies to improve operations, increase the products’ value and enhance competitiveness. It also offered updated information about markets, partners and the trends in the Vietnamese and global mining industries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Duong Quang said the mining industry has contributed between 11 to 15% of the country’s GDP, meeting the demand for materials, coal and metals for production. “However, Vietnam’s mineral potential is limited thus requiring conservation and effectiveness in exploitation while ensuring environmental protection.”

He added that the exhibition was also an opportunity for domestic enterprises to access advanced mining technologies as well as contact foreign partners.

Allworld’s Vietnam representative BT Tee stated, “We are pleased to see the gathering of many strong international brands at Mining Vietnam 2014 to address the immediate and future market needs.” He said that issues of safety, technology and expansion requirements were driving new capital investment in the Vietnamese mining sector.

Mining Vietnam 2014 was supported by ministries and sectors such as the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group as well as overseas partners of the organizers.

Held in conjunction with Mining Vietnam was the first Regional Technical Conference organized by Mining Media International. This attracted almost 150 Vietnamese delegates. It was opened by Australian Trade Commissioner Elodie Journet and moderated by experienced international attorney Oliver Massman, a Partner in Duane Morris Hanoi.

Overall the technical conference proved a success with speakers presenting innovative ‘out of the square’ creative solutions applicable to mining sites and communities in Vietnam.
