AS part of the process to expedite the return of the Pike River Mine back to the New Zealand Department of Conservation, Australian auction company Hassalls is selling the remaining Pike River Mine plant assets via global expressions of interest until the end of June.

The assets include a full coal preparation plant, extensive pumping systems and coal load out facility at the Ikamatua Rail Load Out site, and a large quantity of spare parts that remain at the Pike River Mine site, both located near Greymouth in the South Island of New Zealand.

Hassalls will be holding open days on-site for pre-registered, genuine buyers to inspect the assets and are focused on clearing the site by June 30, 2015 to allow for rehabilitation works to occur, in preparation for return to the Department of Conservation later in the year.

Hassalls general manager Steve Wall, a Kiwi with extensive mine sales experience in the Asian region, said: “Hassalls is honoured to be chosen to complete this project. Hassalls understands the compassion and immense respect required in dealing with the Pike River Mine sale of assets and meeting the market in the value returned for the plant.

“The plant is in exceptional condition and will be attractive to smaller coal operators in Asia and West Africa,” he said.
